If you are living in Lisbon, commuting daily, or visiting for a few days, you will come across two transport cards: Viva Viagem and Navegante. In 2026, both remain valid — but they serve completely different purposes.

1. Viva Viagem — the pay-as-you-go option
The Viva Viagem card is ideal for:

🆕 2026 Update — Passe + Zapping on the same card
It is now possible to load a monthly Navegante pass AND Zapping credit on the same Viva Viagem card. Useful examples:
- 30€ Municipal Pass + Zapping for occasional extra trips
- 40€ Metropolitan Pass + Zapping for CP train journeys
This flexibility didn’t exist in earlier years — a major improvement for 2026.
🆕 2026 Update — Tap&Ride
Tap&Ride allows you to pay directly at the validator using your bank card (contactless). The fare matches the onboard ticket price, starting from €1.25.

2. Navegante — the monthly pass for residents and commuters
The Navegante pass is designed for daily commuters. It is valid across the entire Lisbon Metropolitan Area on all operators.
