Lisbon Zoo (Jardim Zoológico de Lisboa) is located in Sete Rios, one of the largest transport hubs in the city, where you’ll find Metro (Blue Line), CP suburban trains, Fertagus trains and several Carris and Carris Metropolitana bus routes.

1. Metro — Jardim Zoológico station (Blue Line)

For most visitors, the easiest option is the Metro, getting off at Jardim Zoológico station, on the Blue Line. The zoo entrance is only a few metres from the station.

  • Line: Blue Line (Reboleira ⇄ Santa Apolónia)
  • Station: Jardim Zoológico
  • Recommended exit: “Jardim Zoológico / Sete Rios”
  • Walking distance: 1–3 minutes to the ticket office

If you’re coming from Baixa-Chiado, Terreiro do Paço or Marquês de Pombal, simply follow the Blue Line towards Reboleira until Jardim Zoológico.

2. CP and Fertagus trains — Sete Rios station

Lisbon Zoo is directly connected to the Sete Rios railway station, served by CP suburban trains (Sintra Line and Azambuja Line) and by Fertagus trains from the south bank.

  • CP Urban Trains: Sintra Line and Azambuja Line, both stopping at Sete Rios.
  • Fertagus: trains Setúbal ⇄ Lisbon and Coina ⇄ Lisbon.
  • Connection to the Zoo: follow the signs to “Jardim Zoológico / Metro” and exit to the surface in front of the Zoo (5–7 minutes’ walk).

This option is ideal for visitors coming from Sintra/Amadora, the South Bank (Margem Sul) or other towns served by CP and Fertagus.

3. Carris buses to Sete Rios / Lisbon Zoo

Several Carris bus routes stop near Sete Rios / Jardim Zoológico, only a short walk from the Zoo entrance.

  • 716 — Alameda ⇄ Benfica

Stops at Sete Rios and Praça General Humberto Delgado are closest to the Zoo.

4. Carris Metropolitana and suburban buses

Visitors coming from outside Lisbon — especially from Almada, Seixal, Setúbal or other suburban areas — can reach Sete Rios using several regional and Carris Metropolitana routes.

  • Regional routes terminating at Lisbon (Sete Rios) from multiple municipalities.
  • Intercity and long-distance bus terminals also located at Sete Rios.

5. From Lisbon Airport to Lisbon Zoo

The simplest route from the airport is entirely by Metro:

  • Take the Red Line from Aeroporto station towards São Sebastião.
  • At São Sebastião, transfer to the Blue Line towards Reboleira.
  • Get off at Jardim Zoológico (2 stops after São Sebastião).

This route avoids traffic and leaves you almost directly at the Zoo entrance — ideal for families with luggage.

6. Walking and accessibility around the Zoo

The area around Lisbon Zoo has wide pavements, clear pedestrian signage and accessible routes suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Sete Rios ⇄ Zoo: 5–7 minutes on foot
