How to Get to the Lisbon Oceanarium — Transport Guide for Visitors

The Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the most visited attractions in Portugal, especially by families. It is located in Parque das Nações, only a short walk from the Oriente station (Metro + CP trains).
This guide explains how to get there easily using Metro, train, bus or on foot, plus the most useful ticket options.
1. Where is the Lisbon Oceanarium?
The Oceanarium is located in the southern area of Parque das Nações, next to the riverfront and close to:
- Gare do Oriente (Metro + CP)
- Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre
- MEO Arena
- Telecabine cable car

2. Getting to the Oceanarium by Metro
The Metro is the easiest way for most visitors.
Red Line → Oriente Station
- Take the Red Line of the Lisbon Metro.
- Get off at Oriente.
- From the station, it is a 8–10 minute walk to the Oceanarium.
Walking from Oriente
- Go up to the Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre.
- Walk through the mall towards the river.
- Exit to the waterfront pedestrian area.
- The Oceanarium is the large building on the water.
ONDEBUS tip: In rainy weather, most of the route can be done inside the shopping centre.
3. Getting to the Oceanarium by Train (CP)
If you are coming from outside Lisbon, suburban trains are fast and convenient.
- Sintra Line – trains stopping/ending at Oriente
- Azambuja Line – direct connection to Oriente
- Northern Line – regional and long-distance trains stopping at Oriente
Follow the signs “Parque das Nações / Centro Vasco da Gama” and continue the short walk to the Oceanarium.
4. Buses serving Parque das Nações
Many Carris and Carris Metropolitana buses stop near the Oceanarium or Oriente station.
Examples of Carris lines*
- 728 – Restelo ⇄ Portela (passes by Oriente)
- 750 – Algés ⇄ Oriente
- 781 – Cais do Sodré ⇄ Prior Velho

5. Walking inside Parque das Nações
- Oriente → Oceanarium: 8–10 minutes
- MEO Arena → Oceanarium: 6–8 minutes (waterfront route)
- Telecabine (south station) → Oceanarium: 2–3 minutes
The area is flat, pedestrian-friendly and perfect for families.
6. Getting there by car — is it worth it?
Driving is possible, but traffic and parking can be challenging on weekends, school holidays and event days.
Parking options
- Vasco da Gama shopping centre – underground paid parking
- Street parking along Av. D. João II (limited)
- Parking areas near MEO Arena
